Project Summary

This project will collect 500 primary/untreated gastric carcinomas (GC) and 100 pair-biopsied GC samples (before and after chemotherapy) from Japanese patients. By applying the cutting-edged sequencing technologies together with pathology-based macro-dissection of tumor tissues, we will achieve enrichment of tumor cells for analysis, especially in the diffuse-type GC with abundant stromal cell contamination. In addition to the molecular characterization of GC genomes/epigenomes and novel therapeutic targets, genomic signatures correlated with therapeutic responses or unique ethnic/epidemiological backgrounds (Helicobactor or EB virus infection etc.) will be explored.
